Well, now I want to see how Ribéry still wants to go to this "big" Real Rolling Eyes
They never should have fired Schuster imo. He already began to build a TEAM, but without time you can't build anything. Still he managed to win the domestic league, so I don't understand this move at all. Pelligrini is weird anyway. I simply don't like the club anymore. Toy Soldier camp...

Now we must hear how Real Madrid lost this game and Lyon did not deserve it as it was Real Madrid who lost Sad.

Just imagine if also Stuttgart will be inspired by Lyon and throw out Barcelona. Then we would have at most one Italian and one Spanish team in the quarter final and two teams from France and two teams from Germany.

Now that would really turn the world upside down! Razz

Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Obviously not what I was rooting for, but hey, Lyon deserved it. Chapeau Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation All I can say is that it's a huge disappointment, but my dislike of Florentino* keeps me from seeing this as totally negative. All you French fans, and my friend in Paris, live it up tonight, carpe the victory grin grin grin

*In 2003, Real won the league and went out in the semifinals of the CL to Juventus. Del Bosque was fired, presumably for not being "mediatic" enough. Thus was born the "Del Bosque curse" alluded to by bbi. Hierro was retired, and the "central defender" curse was born--none forthcoming in years who is as good as Hierro. Makelele left because he wanted a salary somewhere in the ballpark of Beckham's. So Real, under Florentino, became a team for which glamor was more important than futbol. Now Florentino is back, and while his management has been smarter with regard to building a team, it seems the team must win it all immediately or the "project" is a failure. Let's see if he sticks with Pelligrini. Let's see if he sticks with his players. Show some backbone, Florentino Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

well with Milan takeing a 4 - 0 I shouldn't say anything about Real. But still, what a waste of money in order to accomplish nothing.

Well Played Lyon Fantastic and further proof that it takes more than money to build a team.

I won't mock Madrid just yet but someone needs to tell Senor Perez that a good defence is as important as expensive attackers.

I guess Madrid will now be very anxious and hoping that Barca do not retain the trophy in the Bernabeu.

Anyway for now i think we should just praise Lyon who in all fairness should have won the game.

well, let's be honnest, Madrid should have done the job at half time, but for the credit of OL, it was a totally different team in the second half which was much more balanced and I think that Lyon had the best chances (and I don't speak about the 2 big chances in the injury time when Real were not defending anymore).
So at the end, let's say that it's a deserved qualification based on 3 half-times out of 4, but Madrid could have made the difference in 45 mn only.

Big success for Lyon who at last eliminate a big club in KO games. Football is curious. We had much better teams in the past, but they were acting like diesels (very consistent but unable to go over their limits in the big games) whereas it looks like that this one, although weaker, has more soul, more heart.

I feel sorry for Real Madrid and I find your comments (generally speaking) a bit harsh for them. It's a beautiful team with great players (CR9 obviously). They will recover from this and come back even stronger next season.

At last, but not the least, our women won their quarters (1st leg) in the Women Champions League 3-0 vs. an Italian team. Good day for Lyon!

To be fair, they did sign guys like Arbeloa, Raúl Albiol and Xabi Alonso. They do look strong and consistent as a team and their Liga position is a reflection of that (1st with the same points of Barça but better goal difference).

Real Madrid is out now, but I certainly wouldn't want to draw them next season if they keep the core of this season's team.

Thank you Olympique Lyon for this result, you made my day!! Very Happy Too bad Lisandro and Delgado didn't make at least one from those huge chances....An away win would be the cherry on the cake.

Also, I'm glad that a "Liechtenstein guy" showed to the fiasco of football how you can dance at the prom of millions. Very Happy

Another thing, at first when I heard of the "Galacticos" I thought it had something to do with milk, as "Gala" in Greek means milk, due to their white jersey and quality.....now they can be called the perfect "milk-shake"....see ya next year fellas, with your new transfers that will frighten the football world and not only...

Oh, and who their next unfortunate coach will be? Mourinho? Rolling Eyes I think I read somewhere about his big desire to win a Spanish title....

Not the worst precondition for success, I'd say. Sometimes, I talk with people here in Munich about the Bayern team that won the CL in 2001. More or less a bunch of average players. (Average in comparison to many other top teams in Europe in that time. And of course with the exception of the two full backs. Wink ) But they had a team spirit and they had the ultimate willingness to win the trophy.

And now look at the Real players. Of course, they played a very good first half. But when it comes to crunch time- means when things go wrong but you still have the opportunity to change them - they lack every mentality and accept a defeat long before the old lady sings.

Really? You really wonder why people from all over Europe dislike this club? With all of its arrogance over its life time? Regarding itself as something special (a certain coach would fit there Very Happy )? And now investing - rubbish - burning 250 mio. Euro? For nothing? I don't.

Cash doesn't score goals. Well, it may help. Obviously. But you need to build and develop a team over a certain period. That means new signings, but not the signing of an entire (or half) new team. And you need a coach that gets some time. None of the Real coaches of the last decade got it. Examples: Ferguson (won his first title in the 7th season with ManUtd) and Wenger.

But I'm absolutely sure that none of the Real management will accept this. They will spend / burn another some 100 mio. Euros (Ribéry?), fire their actual coach, sign a new one and after a year they will wonder why they did not qualify for the CL quarters.

So far to the even stronger comeback of Real. Very Happy

Coming to the great players, Ronaldo obviously has outstanding skills. But did you see him in the crunch time? I didn't. I tell you, my friend, when it comes to success, I'd give 100 Ronaldos for one Van Bommel or - in your case - for one Toulalan. Believe me.

One question. R.Madrid failed in the last 6 seasons to reach cuarter finals.
How can R.Madrid this year get 21 points in the ranking and the other years 15? Remember this year they did not beat Milan in the 2 games of the group stage too.
